Chapter Mission
We aim to substantially increase the representation of American Indian and Alaskan Native students in
engineering, science and other related technology disciplines by promoting a learning atmosphere that
encourages professionalism and academic success.
Chapter History
Stanford’s chapter of the American Indian Science and Engineering was established in 1983 with the support
of four members of the
Stanford American Indian Organization (SAIO)
. Since Stanford's AISES chapter was established, our members have been active in the Indigenous STEM
community at Stanford, as well as other programs in the Stanford Native community. Stanford University
AISES maintains membership with AISES National in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and our chapter is dedicated to
the principles of AISES National, which include improving Indigenous education and increasing the number
of Native scientists and engineers.
